Part of the broad, balanced curriculum here at Ringway is the teaching of Religious Education. We believe that all children, from any faith or culture, should feel welcomed into the school community and this is fostered through the learning and exposure to a variety of religions and worldviews.

The school follows a curriculum created by ‘Discovery RE’- this scheme of work ensures that we are teaching about a multitude of religions that are revisited throughout the Key Stages to enable a progression of learning across the school. Christianity is taught in every year group, with Christmas and Easter given fresh teaching each year, developing children’s learning in a progressive way and allowing pupils to build upon prior knowledge skills.

The Discovery RE scheme of work focuses around an enquiry approach and use of a key question. This type of enquiry demands an answer that weighs up ‘evidence’ and reaches a conclusion based on this. This necessitates children using their subject knowledge and applying it to the enquiry question, rather than this knowledge being an end in itself. Discovery RE focuses on critical thinking skills, on personal reflection into the child’s own thoughts and feelings, on growing subject knowledge and nurturing spiritual development.
