RE - Ringway Primary School

Religious Education has a significant role for the development of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It promotes respect and open-mindedness towards others with different faiths and beliefs and encourages pupils to develop their sense of identity and belonging through self-awareness and reflection. The principle aim of RE is to engage pupils in an enquiry approach where they can work collaboratively to develop an understanding and appreciation for the expression of beliefs, cultural practices and influence of principle religions and worldviews in the local, national and wider global community.

At Ringway, we aim to encourage children to appreciate and respect the different cultures in today’s society. RE also contributes to pupils’ personal development and well-being and to community cohesion by promoting mutual respect and tolerance in a diverse society.

Through the teaching of RE, we aim to engage pupils in enquiring into and exploring questions arising from the study of religion and belief, so as to promote their personal, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development – promoting equality and celebrating difference. We enable learners to apply their knowledge of other subjects within RE – for example, we can use skills in art and design to enhance creativity when looking at religious artefacts such as Rangoli patterns, Diva Lamps or stained glass window designs within a Christian church.
